We had this old wooden boat in our garden as a centre feature and growing through the hull was a stunning native grasstree plant. The rocky garden bed it sat in was a haven for lizards. Kookaburras were regular visitors, perching themselves on the edge of the boat, often laughing their heads off.
On one particular day, they dropped in for a visit. I’d had a challenging few months. I’d hit rock bottom, struggling to keep the bills paid. Newly separated, 2 little kids and no where near enough income coming in…the reality of sole parenting on a single (low) income hit hard.
Then, these guys show up….and start LAUGHING!
They stayed long enough for me to break my train of thought, grab the camera and take some reference photos and yes, they continued to laugh the whole time.
I often get asked the question “Where does your inspiration come from?” More often my answer is “a lived experience”.
